Welcome to The Madame’s Larder!

I decided yesterday that I should write a Blog. I had never been interested in it before. A couple of weeks ago, I realized for the nth time that I should really write that book. I attempted at least a couple of times, but I couldn’t find my focus. Yesterday, I thought writing a Blog would be a good start. It’s one story or a recipe at a time. It doesn’t seem as overwhelming as authoring 450 pages.

Then I had to think about what I’d blog about. I have many interests and many strengths (and weaknesses) if I choose to highlight them. Perhaps it’s uncharacteristic of me to decide not to blog only about what I want. Of course, I must be happy to write about it, but this isn’t about my artistic or emotional expression. I allow enough room in my life for that. Here, I want to blog about something I believe will be useful and helpful within my interests or expertise.

Thus, The Madame’s Larder Blog.

If you have been following my journey for a while now, you might know that I started The Madame’s Larder as a 501(c)(3) organization with the mission to raise awareness for food sustainability through education and collaborations with local farms in Maui. While I have not been able to maintain a Board and its nonprofit status, the mission remains the same. I continue to support food sovereignty in Maui and everywhere I find myself cooking or finding food nourishment.

I will blog about food, mostly home cooking with the premise of being broké. Say that with the correct accent, with an é. Yes, I am being cute. Being broke isn’t adorable but when you choose to be broké, it makes light of the situation. My reasoning is this - I stay grateful. My happiness is not analogous to how expensive are the stuff I can afford. I am equally as happy making do with what I have. I am joyful in finding ways to make delicious and gorgeous food with very little. I call it Frugal Finesse. Just because I can’t afford Cristal and caviar today does not mean I eat without sass.

Almost all of the recipes on this Blog will not be so lavish or impractical while maintaining my methodical twist. Of course, I enjoy the occasional luxurious indulgence but in this current 2025 economy, I defer to Donut Economics and would like to cook justly. Someone called my way of schooling DEI - Donut Economics Institute. Who knows? It may catch on. Anyway, that is my focus for The Madame’s Larder.

Thank you for visiting and I am looking forward to cooking at home with you (albeit virtually)! 🌺✨
